Bucerias,
in the state of Nayarit is a small Mexican village situated 15 minutes
north of the Puerto Vallarta airport.
It
is nestled inside the Bay of Banderas.
This seaside village with
its town square and church has become a favorite vacation spot for
those looking for a hideaway.
Bucerias, the town name is from the
verb bucear "to dive", was once an outpost to buy
and eat oysters, and is now a bustling town of approximately 20,000.
While Bucerias may not
have the nightlife of Puerto Vallarta, it does have the quaintness
and the pristine beaches that made Puerto Vallarta famous to begin
with.
The white sandy beaches are excellent for windsurfing, jogging,
walking or just collecting shells.
They also offer peace and quiet.
There are restaurants
and galleries, dress and gift shops, small groceries selling fresh
fish and shrimp, vegetables and fruit all within walking distance.
